A typical Rune Stone appears as a smooth almost rectangular stone. On both sides, runes have been carved into it and filled with pure silver.
For most of the Ironlanders the exact function of these stones is unknown and for them they appeared suddenly over night. Most are tolerated on where they are and people seem to feel strangely calm around them, despite still having a faint feeling of unease.
These stones had been in fact be erected by the Firstborn in a joint effort to contain the Iron Mist to spread. It does not completely neutralize or combat it, but allows all living things to roam freely around day and night. In fact they had been placed on strategic position all over Jarneyna on junctions of leylines, to form kind of protective net.
