There are three distinct ages in the history of Aard: The Dawn, the Age of Strife (which included the Rupture) and the Age of Renaissance.
This history and timeline of major events attempts to lay out the most important points in the history of Aard, but is not complete in any form. Some of the events are taken as myth or legends by most of the Aardians and their accuracy may vary.
Pre-Dawn
In an endless cycle of rebirth, energy from a past universe gathered in a singularity and gave birth to entities of pure energy and boundless power. These entities would become aware of themselves and create their own individualities, different aspects of reality itself - divine beings with endless possibilities.
Dawn
| Year(s) | Event |
|---|---|
| Unknown | Still relatively young, the gods would start to concentrate their energy in order to form matter into all shapes and forms. From these experiments would spring Aard - as a sphere of molten rock. It would take them a long time to tame this force and form it to their will. They covered it with water to dwindle the heat except for a single massive continent in the middle of the new ocean. |
| The gods would wander on their new creation, but felt soon alone. To keep them company they created the Empyreans. |
Age of Strife
| Year(s) | Event |
|---|---|
| Unknown | Gifted some of the divine magic by their creators, the Empyreans would soon shape their own life - plants, animals and more. At first delighted and happy, they would soon become bored and would start to destroy what they had created. |
| Concerned by this, the gods were forced to act and imprisoned them deep under the continent. Not knowing what to do, the gods retreated to another plane of existence to think. | |
| ~ -1000 AR | Life flourished on Aard, despite the absence of the gods. The people would form societies and cultures, spreading to almost every corner of the continent. During this time, they would also discover magic, residual of the divine energy and use it to their advantage. Soon first wars would erupt for resources and power. |
| ~ -600 AR | A band of powerful wizards, sought to tap into the divine energy residing in the gods’ plane. Ultimately failing, it still left a crack in the fabric of the plane. |
| Having left the people to their own devices, for centuries, the recent events rekindled concerns in the gods. Reminded of their failings in the past, they debated amongst themselves what to do next. | |
| ~ -500 AR | These debates would split the gods in two groups, one that wanted to destroy everything and start anew and the other to preserve what is. This would start the War in Heaven. |
| Sometime after the start of the War in Heaven | An unknown god would leave from their plane and settle on Aard, what would ultimately become Jarneyna, widening the crack in the plane further. |
| ~ -400 AR | No longer able to hold the gods in their own plane, some of the gods broke through the crack and landed back on Aard. There they recruited champions from the inhabitants to fight in their stead, hoping to gain an edge against the others. |
| Immediately before the Rupture | Centuries of war, both sides of the conflict started to show signs of defeat. The Aardians grew angry of fighting a proxy war for their own fate. In an effort to end it once and for all, a plan was hatched, to banish the gods back to their own place. A plan that had terrible consequences - costing many lives and splitting the continent. |
Age of Renaissance
| Year(s) | Event |
|---|---|
| 0 AR | A group of refugees, after months on the sea, land on Jarneyna. |
| 35 AR - 57 AR | A bloody war is fought on Jarneyna, lead by Zhan. |
| 60 AR - 160 AR | A mysterious Mist is dividing Jarneyna. |
